Birth Story of Ruby Jane

Ruby came into the world making quite a dramatic entrance! On Monday October 7th, my mom had arrived into town the weekend before so we were determined to keep busy and keep crossing things off the to do list because I had absolutely no contractions going on whatsoever. With the boys, whenever my mom arrived into town, the cx kicked in...with Ruby, the cx completely stopped when she came to town.
That morning we cleaned out of the garage, I cleaned out the truck and swept it all out & detailed it. It was a beautiful day outside, the first day I could remember without humidity...so we enjoyed it! We took a loooooong walk and showed Memaw the turtles at turtle lane, pocket parks and just kept moving. That evening after Kit got home we decided to do haircuts for the boys to get that crossed off the list too...Kit was cutting hair and I was in the bathroom giving baths and putting on PJs. Looking back at this I would say this was a defining moment. Ruby had been laying on her right side the entire pregnancy but I look back now and know this is when she got into position and moved from laying on her side to moving into birth position. I just remember feeling sore but had no cx and was SO looking forward to good sleep bc of all we had done that day.

We went upstairs to put the boys to bed and played for a long time in the toy room just having fun with them. After we put them to bed I was so tired but who wants to go to bed at 8:00? Looking back, maybe I should've! ha! There was nothing on TV that night except for the movie, "That thing you do" so I had fun watching that. I was not having contractions but remember thinking she had moved because I was finally feeling movement on both sides of my belly, instead of just the left side. We headed to bed around 10p.

I woke up around 1am with a slow water leak so I was up and down in the bathroom but I still had no cx so I went back to sleep hoping I could get a few good hours before we had to head into the hospital. I just get back to sleep, Ruby would squirm and there would be a gush of fluid. Guess it was time to call the doctors office. When I called my cx were about 12 minutes apart. I was still in no rush. Well, it took about 10 minutes for the doctor to call me back and by that time they were coming quickly. I woke up Kit and said we better get moving. All we had to do was throw a toothbrush in our bags but the cx were more intense and closer together. Thank goodness my mom was here and we didn't have to wait on a babysitter to arrive. Before we were even 2 miles down the road the cx were 2 minutes apart. Great. It was going to be a fun hour ride to the hospital!! Ha! Texas roads are NOT smooth that's all I'll say. A couple times since it was in the middle of the night and there wasn't any traffic, I'd just have kit stop in the middle of the road to catch my breath. We pulled up to the hospital and they had a valet service. They got me a wheelchair and that's when it all got crazy fast. Moving from the truck to the wheelchair, my body went into transition. When the nurse was wheeling me to the room I couldn't stop throwing up and I just remember her and Kit to tell me to get on the bed. My body was in my major contraction & I couldn't stop shaking....ummm...I can't move! haha!

So Kit literally picked me up and put me on the bed. At this time the nurse checked me and confirmed my water had broke, I was at 9.5 cm and she saw hair! It was at that moment the nurse yelled for back up and all I remember was laying on my right side while they were yelling at me to not push and set the room up. The longest part was the nurse trying to get the IV in before delivery. WIth my history of postpartum hemorrhage the doctor on call would NOT deliver without an IV. Once that was in I said, that's it! I HAVE to push. I can not NOT push anymore. And with that...one push...out came Ruby. The Doctor said to stop since Ruby had the cord wrapped around her neck once, then I pushed once more and she was out at 3:54am! The nurse later looked on the contraction strip and said it was 11 minutes. We just made it!! whew!

I don't care if it's your first or fourth, it's such an incredibly amazing experience each time. Afterwards I then got to do all the registration and paperwork that didn't get done upon arrival when we took turns holding her and looking over all her beautiful features, 10 fingers, 10 toes.

It didn't seem like it was very long and it was time to leave labor and delivery and go to postpartum. She never left our room and we couldn't wait for the big brothers to meet their new sister!!!

It was such a beautiful experience and we are so in love with our daughter!!!

Updates

I am so incredibly behind on this blog, I'm not sure I will ever catch up but I am going to attempt to try. So there are going to be many quick little posts popping  up :).

Ruby: Ruby turned 5 weeks on Tuesday and we just love this little pumpkin so much! She is doing great & is starting to stretch out in her sleep! She went her longest stretch last night from 8p to 3a! Thanks, Ruby!
Porter: Oh Porter. He has the BEST imagination ever and is constantly flying to the moon, working on the railroad, rescuing someone or just plain being silly like he is here with his 4 eyes :).

Wells: SUCH a cutie!! He is VERY sweet & very cuddly. The ONLY thing is he likes torment his brothers & chase them. It's comical at times, annoying at others.

Henry: Loving school! A couple weeks ago he had an etiquette party at school. They had been working on manners and instead of having a halloween party they dressed up in their Sunday best and had a "fancy" party. He looked so handsome & SO big!
Ruby looked so sweet in this little sleeper...which was mine as a little girl! SO special!!

ONE month!

Doesn't seem possible, Ruby Jane, that you are already 1 mo old! What a month its been...!
You are still a little peanut but I can tell you are really starting to fill out! You have outgrown nb clothes but are still swimming in 3mo. You wear nb diapers but are almost ready to move up to size 1s. You eat every 3 hours like clockwork during the day & have a good eat/play/sleep routine going. At night you give us a 4-5 hour stretch and then 3.5-4 hour stretch. I'd love to see that stretch out & I know as you gain more weight it'll come. You are just starting to give us some smiles when we talk to you & tolerate tummy time for a few minutes throughout the day. Love you, Ruby girl!!!

coming home & first ped appt

Ruby looked so sweet in her coming home outfit memaw made for her!
We got home right about the time the boys were waking up from their naps on Wednesday afternoon.
They were SO excited to see their baby sister but maybe even more excited to see that baby sister had done a little shopping!! :)
 Pretty girl in pink!
This morning Ruby had her first visit to her pediatrician. They checked her bilirubin levels again and they were normal...thankful for no jaundice! The pediatrician told us she looked perfect! I had a few adorable outfits ready for the little lady to wear but she is such a peanut we settled for a little newborn sleeper instead. She is so tiny! Today at her appt she was 6 pounds! So fun to take a picture with me and my best girl!
She was so alert after her afternoon feeding...Kit enjoyed taking pictures of his daughter. He got some good ones!
